Once in a Blue Moon: The Sagittarius Full Moon's Invitation to See the Bigger Picture

May 31, 2026 · A deviSol Connection Reflection

The sky is doing something rare for us. May opened with a full moon on the 1st, and it closes with a second one on May 31 — and that second full moon in a single month is what we call a Blue Moon. It only graces us every two to three years, which is exactly where the saying "once in a blue moon" comes from. This one rises in adventurous, truth-seeking Sagittarius, peaking at 4:45 AM ET.

Sit with that for a moment. The universe bookended this entire month with light. That's not nothing. It's an invitation.

What This Moon Is Unveiling

A full moon is always a moment of illumination — the point in the lunar cycle where what's been quietly building underneath finally rises to the surface so you can actually see it. But a Blue Moon carries an extra charge. Because it marks a true ending, it asks a pointed question: What are you finally ready to release, complete, or let go of before the next chapter begins?

This particular moon sits on what astrologers call the Gemini–Sagittarius axis. The Sun is in curious, detail-gathering Gemini; the Moon is in wisdom-seeking Sagittarius. Think of it this way: Gemini collects all the little facts, conversations, and information of daily life — and Sagittarius is the part of you that steps back and asks, but what does it all actually mean?

So what's being unveiled isn't new information. It's understanding. The difference between knowing a hundred scattered things and finally seeing how they fit together into a story about your life. Under this moon, something clicks. The bigger picture becomes hard to deny.

There's also some real intensity woven in. This lunation is tied to the karmic points of destiny in the sky, so for many of us it may feel weightier than a typical full moon — almost eclipse-like, stirring up themes that have been unfolding over the past year. And a loose connection to unpredictable Uranus means surprises are possible. Stay open. The thing you didn't plan for may be the thing that frees you.

How to Actually Use This Energy to Grow — Realistically

Spiritual growth isn't about waiting for the cosmos to fix things. It's about using these natural turning points as honest checkpoints. Here's how to work with this Blue Moon in a grounded, real-life way:

1. Name what's complete. Sagittarius governs beliefs, education, and the journeys we've been on. Ask yourself: what cycle in my life is genuinely finished? A project, a story I've told about myself, a relationship dynamic, a goal I've outgrown? Write it down. Naming an ending is how you make space for what's next.

2. Examine the beliefs running the show. This axis reminds us that what we think about every day shapes what we believe — and what we believe shapes the direction of our whole life. Pick one limiting belief you've been carrying ("I'm not ready," "it's too late," "I can't"). Hold it up to the light. Is it true, or is it just familiar? Growth often starts the moment we question a story we never chose on purpose.

3. Zoom out before you act. Gemini energy can keep us spinning in details and busywork. Sagittarius invites the wider-angle view. Before making decisions this week, ask: Does this move me toward the life I actually want, or am I just reacting to noise? Clarity, not speed, is the gift here.

4. Release with ritual, then ground it in action. Ceremony makes the intangible real. Light a candle, step outside under the moon, and speak aloud what you're releasing. Then — and this is the realistic part — pair it with one concrete step in the next 48 hours. Send the email. Have the conversation. Cancel the thing. Energy follows action.

5. Tend your own light. This moon encourages us to reclaim our inner light and step into the spotlight of our own lives with a little more pride and hope. Do one thing this week that reminds you who you are when you're not performing for anyone.

A Simple Blue Moon Practice

Tonight or tomorrow, find a quiet window. Place one hand on your heart. Breathe slowly and ask:

What have I learned this past cycle that I'm ready to live by — not just know?

Let the answer come without forcing it. Then close with gratitude for how far you've traveled. You don't have to have it all figured out. You only have to be honest about where you are.

The blue moon doesn't change your life for you, Sweet Soul. It simply turns on the lights so you can see the room you're already standing in — and choose, with open eyes, where you walk next.
